Slimmers get tasty

Slimmers in East Kilbride proved that dieting doesn’t have to be dull when they took part in their very own cookoff.

The Slimming World Westwood class held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church tantalised the taste buds to see who could come up with the tastiest grub that wouldn’t pile on the pounds.

In the style of the Great British Bake-Off members were challenged to come up with their very own signature Free Food recipe with a chance to spend an all-expenses paid day at Slimming World head office hosted by last year’s Great British Bake-Off champion David Atherton, win £1000 and have their recipe published in the Slimming World Magazine.

Members voted on the day for their favourite free food creation.

The local community got involved with support from McCandlish Butchers in Westwood Square and new restaurant Coppertrees Bar and Grill, who were the ‘food experts’ and presented winner, Pamela Young, with her prize.

Delicious dishes on offer that were also kind to the waistline included one-pot pasta, lentil bolognese, hot pot, and even a caramel latte cheesecake.

But it was Pamela’s mixed peppers, stuffed with spicy beef and chicken mince, that was the stand-out dish.

Pamela will join other winners and will now move onto the next round – the Central Scotland district final – with a chance to win one of the 10 golden ticket places at the head office final.

Slimming World consultant, Eamon Siex, said: “I couldn’t be prouder.

“This is what Slimming World is all about – people coming together to help, support and inspire one another towards their weight-loss goals.

“Pamela is an amazing member of our Westwood groups, and I’m so happy for her.”
