Citizens’ Advice Bureau helping more victims

East Kilbride Citizens’Advice Bureau has seen an increase in the number of people needing assistance because of domestic abuse.

And its manager had described the statistic of over NINE incidents of domestic violence within South Lanarkshir­e each day as“extremely worrying”.

Manager Michelle Campbell said: “The current climate doesn’t appear to be going to improve, more families are relying on the benefit system which is complex and can cause additional stress to people.

“The bureau has seen a rise in people seeking assistance and disclosing to us that they are being affected by domestic abuse.

“This current year we have seen a rise from one per cent to over 2.3 per cent.

“This maybe that people feel a bit easier at disclosing this to us, as it is made more and more clear that domestic abuse in whatever form is just not acceptable.”

East Kilbride CAB advise anyone who is affected by domestic abuse to seek help and support.

If you are in imminent danger phone 999 and report the abuse and get immediate protection.

The CAB can assist people with the practical aspects like:

Benefits and financial independen­ce Child maintenanc­e

Signpostin­g to recovery support Immigratio­n cases at OISC level 1

The bureau can also assist with initial contact with specialist organisati­ons.
