Guidance to schools and nurseries on containing killer virus

-

Education bosses at South Lanarkshire Council have this week issued guidance to schools and nurseries over the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The local authority have been working closely with NHS Lanarkshire to issue the guidance and say they will be “assessing the position every day”.

Most school trips in the South Lanarkshire area are taking place within the UK, with none going to Italy or China.

Des Dickson, education resources operations manager, said: “In light of the impact of the coronavirus and some questions from schools around school trips and the overall wellbeing of staff and young people, Education Resources in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire Public Health agreed to issue this week some advisory guidance to schools and nurseries.

“This centred on the importance of adopting good hygiene – washing hands and for anyone with a cold to do the right thing: catch it/bin it/kill it.

“We also let schools know that NHS Lanarkshire Public Health are assessing the position every day and are following the advice being provided by the World Health Organisation.

“The guidance was issued to let schools know that if they had questions to contact NHS Lanarkshire Public Health as per our protocols for any health related matter.

“We have also looked at forthcoming school trips and can confirm that most are taking place in the UK with none going to countries like Italy or China.

“In partnership with NHS Public Health Lanarkshire we will continue to monitor the current situation.”
