East Kilbride’s MP is selfisolating after showing COVID-19 symptoms following contact with a colleague who tested positive for the virus.

Dr Lisa Cameron posted a message to her constituents on social media on Thursday stating that she has been instructed to selfisolate for at least one week after a consultation with a nurse and outof-hours doctor.

The SNP MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow had been in a debate alongside Mid Bedfordshire MP Nadine Dorries last week, who was later diagnosed with the deadly virus.

Cancelling her Friday and Saturday surgeries, Dr Cameron initially reported feeling fatigued, before developing a dry cough and swollen glands which have been classed as tell-tale signs of COVID-19.

Anyone with a “new, continuous” cough or high temperature is now advised to self-isolate for seven days, as the UK government moves to the “delay” phase of its plan to tackle coronavirus.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson last week described the coronavirus outbreak as “the worst public health crisis for a generation” and warned many families they would “lose loved ones before their time”.

Speaking to the News while holed up at home in Lesmahagow, Dr Cameron said: “The doctor made the referral for me to go for testing, then I was told on the call that the NHS guidance has changed and that I was not to be tested at this time as we are now in a ‘delay’ phase. I was advised to continue to self-isolate.

“It was suggested I use another loo from the family and keep myself in another room from Mark and the kids.

“I am still much more tired than usual, with a dry cough and swollen glands. I feel exhausted and my bones are sore and the back of my neck is warm.

“I’m hoping it’s not coronavirus but the doctor said I’m high risk as I’ve had contact with Nadine and I
