“I’m still too tired to do very much aside from sleeping and watching Netflix. It’s really difficult. You want to hug your children, you want to be with them – but for their safety and their health, you are pretty much keeping away from them.

There have now been 195 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Scotland – a rise of 129 from Friday.

In total, two people have died in Scotland and around 60 people have died across the UK with the virus.

Schools have been advised to cancel trips abroad, while people over 70 and those with pre-existing health conditions are being told to expect a lengthy period of self isolation in the coming weeks.

Dr Cameron, who is a clinical psychologist, said the health service’s 111 helpline has been “absolutely inundated” due to the changing advice about the coronavirus outbreak.

“I know when I called back on Thursday I waited about two hours for a response, so I think the service probably has to deal with this around the clock so I can’t fault that at all, they are doing an amazing job in this situation.

“I think it’s difficult because the strategy and the messaging appears to have changed for people who have the symptoms.

“It is understandable as symptoms develop but you feel a bit in the dark with it and you don’t know how long to expect the symptoms for.”

Dr Cameron revealed that she hopes to return to work “within the next couple of weeks” and advised her constituents to heed NHS guidance, adding: “Thanks to NHS Scotland and to everyone who has gotten in touch. Please take care of yourself and your families and follow all NHS guidance to the hilt.”

People with symptoms are no longer required to call NHS 111, as the system is under strain, but are instead urged to look for information on the NHS website and 111 online.
