Beer festival is postponed

The organisers of the Glassford Beer and Gin Festival have postponed the event in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

And the team behind the Eaglesham Beer Festival may not be far behind, having suspended ticket sales.

Due to take place next weekend, the sold out festival is an important part of the community.

But organisers agreed that “everyone’s safety” is more important, postponing the event until October.

Taking to Facebook to make the announcement, organisers said: “After serious consideration, it is with much regret that we have postponed the festival due to take place on March 28.

“Everyone’s safety is paramount and given the developing coronavirus situation, Glassford Community Group feel we have no option but to postpone the event.

“The festival will be rescheduled for later in the year. All tickets will be honoured.”

The event will now take place on October 3, with the original venue and suppliers “all on board”.

In a secondary post, organisers said: “Hopefully this horrible virus will be long gone by then. We had no choice to take the decision to postpone, people’s health is far more important. All the tickets are still valid as are the sponsors tickets and advertising.”

Meanwhile Fraser and Laura Wilson have suspended ticket sales for this year’s Eaglesham Beer and Music Festival.

Due to take place on Saturday, May 30, organiser Fraser spoke to the News, reiterating the point made by the team from Glassford. He said: “As it stands we have suspended ticket sales for the Saturday event and are working to come up with a viable contingency plan for May 30.

“We are reviewing all options available to us, but we hope our supporters understand; nothing is more important than the health and safety of all in our community, and the beer festival pales into insignificance where this is concerned.

“We’re not committing to any course of action just yet until we see what happens next, but we are anticipating a change of format if not date.”

As the News went to print, it was announced that Strathaven Gala on June 13 would be cancelled – this is the first time the event has been shelved since it started in 1974.
