South Lanarkshire Council have confirmed an East Kilbride primary pupil and her family are self isolating after the youngster fell ill.

Castlefield Primary was advised that a pupil was absent from the school last Tuesday after experiencing coronavirus symptoms.

Concerned parents took to social media after the girl’s mum posted a warning to alert others who may have came into contact with her daughter.

She posted:“Right anyone in ****** class/ school or even been around her for longer than 15 minutes please if you or your child have any symptoms please seek help.

“****** could have been carrying this nasty virus for longer than a week, I’d hate for anyone else to go through what we have been through in the last 24 hours. Stay safe, clean clean clean.”

The mum went on to claim that five other pupils at the Greenhills school had went in to isolation.

The local authority told the East Kilbride News the pupil has not been tested for COVID-19 but is following government advice by self isolating at home.

A spokesman said:“We can confirm that the school was advised on Tuesday that a pupil was absent as they were self-isolating with family members. We understand that the pupil has not been tested for the coronovirus.

“In these circumstances the school rightly followed the advice being provided at the time by the government and public health officials, which was that it should remain open and operate as normal.“The school and the council continue to follow that advice, and to make pupil safety a priority, and all our schools will be closed after Friday, in accordance with current guidance.”

The News has contacted the parent for comment.

Yesterday First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the closure of all Scottish schools and nurseries by the end of the week.

They are not expected to re-open before the start of the summer holidays.

The move came as the Scottish Government confirmed a third person died in Scotland after contracting coronavirus.
