equipment to allow them to carry out their work safely.

“I was pleased to see NHS Lanarkshire take delivery of a substantial number of masks, eyewear, aprons, gloves and hand sanitiser to be distributed across hospitals, GP practices and primary care sites.

“It will reassure constituents that NHS Lanarkshire has the right amount of protective equipment for those who need it.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said this week that 34 million face masks, gloves and other protective items have been delivered to hospitals in Scotland.

The national and devolved governments have been scrambling to battle PPE shortages after health workers and care staff became more vocal over safety fears.

And adequate supplies of PPE are now in place for the next six weeks, Scotland’s Health Secretary, Jeane Freeman, added.

She said the supplies had all come from central government stores but had been sped up by new distribution routes being set up according to clinical guidance.

NHS Lanarkshire told the News they had been “inundated with generous offers” of PPE since the epidemic.

So much so, that a new email address has been created to help manage the donations.

General manager for procurement, Chris Sanderson, told us: “We have been overwhelmed by the offers of support we have received.

“On behalf of NHS Lanarkshire, I’d like to thank everyone for their generosity.

“We are receiving regular stocks of PPE equipment from the NHS Scotland National Distribution Centre.

“However, if anyone would like to donate any additional equipment, ideally we would appreciate it if they could email our procurement department at procurementenquiries@lanarkshire. scot.nhs.uk.”

Manorview managing director David Tracey told the News rooms are filling up fast after a huge amount of interest from frontline workers.

He said:“As a Group we took the decision to offer our empty bedrooms throughout our venues, which includes The Torrance Hotel in East Kilbride, to NHS workers on the frontline.

“We are now seeing a lot of our rooms being taken up and these are free of charge. We’ve been getting a lot of enquires for all our venues, and we’re very grateful to be in a position to help.

“All of our team have been very humbled by the NHS workers who have been in touch with us and we’re getting a small insight into their commitment to their jobs and to the care of others. We are very grateful for the work they do.

“We’re committed to do what we can to help them continue to do their jobs at this very difficult time.”

David has offered up three of his other hotels too, including The Busby Hotel in Clarkston, Boclair House in Bearsden and the Bowfield Hotel and Country Club at Johnstone.

The Group came up with the idea after suspending trading last week to help protect

?? ?? their team, customers and communities.
Urging staff to stay at home, they announced their plan to support the NHS and help stop the spread of COVID-19.
David added:“To all our customers, suppliers, friends and supporters, many of you are going through worrying times yourselves, we thank you for taking time to show us your support.
“It means a lot to us. It encourages us to make the difference and to be positive.
“It’s a time for us all to act in a selfless way, to show humility and empathy, and to help one another where we can.
“Take care, stay safe and be kind to one another.”
