Gin producers join hands to tackle gel sanitiser shortage

Two Strathaven gin companies have teamed up to offer up over 340 bottles of hand sanitiser to organisations in need.

McLean’s Gin and Inspirited Dry Gin teamed up to crowdfund an impressive £2000 in just days.

And that allowed the creative pairing to provide 341 x 70cl bottles to hospitals, GP surgeries, chemists, community care workers, charities, and police stations.

In fact, pretty much every frontline service provider in their area was given a helping hand by the resilience of the pair.

Colin McLean told the News: “It’s quite amazing what you can do in the face of a crisis.

“These people are putting themselves at risk every day, so to have the opportunity to think outside of the box and to offer help when it’s needed most was an absolute pleasure.

“We want to thank everyone that helped us hit our target. Donations received have covered the cost of 341 x 70cl bottles, which is the equivalent of 1705 x 200ml dispenser bottles.

“The money put forward to allow us to do this will save countless lives – that’s a fact. We’re all facing a tough situation, but it fills our hearts with joy to see so many people doing whatever they possibly can to fight the spread of COVID-19.

“Keep fighting – together we’ll beat this thing.”

The pair’s efforts came after the HMRC’s decision to abolish spirits duty to allow for the creation of hand sanitiser.

Excess stock will shortly be offered for purchase “at cost, not for profit” from www. inspirited.co.uk priced at £4.60 per bottle.

A limited stock of 200ml dispenser bottles will also be made available in the coming days.
