Some people are so selfish

-

Seeing the situation in the shops the past couple of weeks, with a major pandemic going about, I must say I’m disgusted with some people’s attitude towards buying from shops.

Was there any need to stock pile ridiculous amounts of loo rolls, clear necessities like bread and tin products, baby milk, nappies and diminish the frozen food aisles?

Just because some people have that means so they can purchase a lot at the one time, doesn’t mean it’s their entitlement to go out with blinkers on to help themselves to absolutey everything.

There are pensioners, families and single families out there who struggle to make ends meet and have to budget for what they can buy.

Who live day-to-day and now, when they get a chance to go to the shops, the shelves and freezers are empty with nothing left for them.

We’re now hearing that some are buying more freezer appliances so they can stock pile more – it beggars belief.

I’m amazed at how inconsiderate and grasping this society has really become.

Yes there are people that are buying for relatives and neighbours too who are self isolating, but the pure brass-necked ones, shamelessly filling their trollies without caring how it affects others who need essentials, is unbelievable.

I saw a couple with a trolley each filled up to the brim with numerous packets of chicken, meats and toilet roll, blissfully ignorant to those around them needing groceries too.

I take my hat off to the supermarkets and staff constantly trying to keep up with the demand and rationing now – and now deterring panic-buyers who have been indiscriminately raiding their shelves.

There is no need to stockpile – if some people hadn’t, I’m sure there would have been enough for everyone to go around.

It’s a very worrying time for everyone and people are scared, but that doesn’t mean you have to go off the rails. Others count too, especially the more needy and most vulnerable.

During the World Wars, I’m sure there was plenty community spirit, selflessness and rationing – seems that’s gone out the window now.

Our great-grandparents, who fought for our country, would be turning in their graves seeing this. We are all human beings and should be good ones and show thought, care and consideration towards others.

But it seems some people sadly these days are just so self-absorbed and not out for need just blatant selfish greed.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

Annoyed and upset, East Kilbride
