Radiographers at Hairmyres Hospital were keen to reinforce the message for people to‘STAY AT HOME’.
The NHS Lanarkshire healthcare team took to social media to post a group picture with the message: “We stay here for you, please stay home for us.”
Aileen Anderson, deputy radiology service manager, told the News:“Every single patient with suspected or confirmed coronovirus will require our input, whether X-rays, CT scans or ultrasound.
“We’re doing everything within our capabilities to provide a service for those who really need us.
“But, without people doing their part to reduce the spread of the virus, it will only make our job more difficult.”
Vital personal protective equipment to safeguard NHS staff against coronavirus is being delivered to frontline services in Lanarkshire.
Concerns have been raised by NHS staff and carers that not enough protective gear was getting to workers coming into contact with those showing symptoms of COVID-19 or confirmed cases, putting them at risk.
There have been appeals on social media for masks, gloves and other items to protect staff at Hairmyres Hospital as well as by Kilbryde Hospice who will provide palliative care in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire.
This included a plea for perspex safety glasses for Hairmyres ITU ward which provides intensive care with a
GoFundMe page set up for PPE across the board.
However, the health board say they have now taken delivery of 17 pallets containing eyewear, aprons, gloves and hand sanitiser.
It will be distributed to all of NHS Lanarkshire’s sites which includes acute hospitals, primary care, GPs, out-of-hours and assessment centres.
Labour’s health spokesperson, Central Scotland MSP Monica Lennon, raised concerns over the distribution of protective to staff: “There are already widespread concerns about the lack of access to the appropriate protective equipment for frontline workers, including GPs, carers and the ambulance service.
“I’ve been raising these issues in Parliament and with the Health Secretary, and I’m concerned to learn that appeal have been put out for PPE for Hairmyres Hospital as well as Kilbryde Hospice. It’s vital they have adequate supplies.
“I have asked NHS Lanarkshire what plans are in place to get equipment out locally to those who need it
“We can all do our part by following the advice to stay at home, slow the spread of the virus and save lives.”
