Charity launches rabbit appeal

-

Animal lovers are being urged to donate much needed hay to Lanarkshire’s Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

The SSPCA has seen an influx of rabbits at the Bothwell-based centre.

Several of the new arrivals were also pregnant, with their babies only adding to the demand for food.

Centre manager Gillian Boyle is appealing for hay and other items for rabbits and Guinea pigs.

She said:“We’re currently caring for 49 rabbits and nine Guinea pigs, so we are going through our hay supplies much faster than usual.

“We’ve got so many small mammals at the moment we’ve even had to convert some of our kennel space into impromptu bunny homes as our rabbitry is full.

“It can be a struggle to keep up with so many hungry mouths to feed.

“Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic we are closed to the public but we can accept donations sent directly to us from Amazon or any other online retailer with a delivery service.

“We understand that times are tough for everyone but if anyone can help with food for these bunnies, we would appreciate anything that people can spare.”

Hay can be purchased from the centre’s Amazon wishlist at www. amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ ls/5S6R0J94735D/ ref=cm_go_nav_hz

Or items can be purchased from any other reputable online retailer offering direct delivery.

Thumper (pictured) arrived into care with her best friend Fiver after her owner could no longer look after them and the pair are looking for a new home.

Aptly named, she is not shy about letting you know she is unhappy with a stamp of her feet.

Thumper is not very comfortable being handled and will require daily handling in her new home, to help her overcome her fears.

She needs a quiet home with no young children where she can relax.
