The East Kilbride community is being asked to leave a light on tomorrow to honour alleged murder victim Louise Aitchison.

Tributes have poured in for the “beautiful” West Mains woman after news of her death rocked the town.

The 33-year-old’s body was discovered by police at her Park Terrace home on Thursday afternoon after reports of concern for her welfare. Following a post mortem, Police Scotland confirmed her death was being treated as murder.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with causing the dental receptionist’s death.

Louise’s mum Caroline, sister Stephanie and brother Sean were too upset to speak to the News, but a family friend told us they are “absolutely devastated” at her tragic death.

Now, in a bid to honour her “fun and gorgeous” sibling, Stephanie and best friend Jamie Allison are asking locals to leave a light on this Thursday night as a mark of respect during the coronavirus lockdown.

This comes after Jamie launched on online fundraising appeal to help the family with funeral costs.

He told the News: “On Friday I woke up to the devastating news my best friend Stephanie’s sister was cruelly taken before her time.

“At this time Caroline, Stephanie and Sean are absolutely devastated but worried about the upcoming pressures of organising and covering the costs of Louise’s funeral.

“Louise was a saint for Steph and made sure her disability didn’t stop her from ‘doing her thing’.

“She was also very well-known in East Kilbride, so I’m hoping friends, neighbours and the local community can rally together and help get this poor family though this tragic time – please dig deep and spare what you can to help towards the costs of the family saying goodbye to their beautiful Louise.”

So far over £3000 has been donated to the family through the fundraising page.

Remembering his friend, Jamie added: “Shine bright beautiful girl.”

Heartbroken friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to Louise.

Nicole McMenemy posted: “Beautiful girl inside and out.

“God rest your beautiful soul Louise.” Claire Goddard wrote: “So sorry Louise. What a lovely girl you were, rest easy angel.”

Chris Ward added: “Can’t believe you’re gone.

“What a fun and gorgeous friend you’ve been, sending all my love up to you in heaven. God bless.”

Carol Rough said: “So sad always there to cheer Stephanie on in everything she’s achieved in her life. Life is so cruel, sleep easy Louise.”

Daryll Paterson appeared in private at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.

He made no plea or declaration to the charge of murder and was remanded in custody.

The East Kilbride man is expected back in the dock next week.
