Ogilvie: Kilby will reach their L2 dream

-

Ex-boss Billy Ogilvie reckons there is no doubt that East Kilbride will one day make the jump to League Two.

Since his time in charge, Kilby have went on to win two Lowland League titles and came out on the losing side of two League Two play-off clashes.

After a disappointing campaign, the one-time K-Park gaffer admits it will be tough for the side to watch if Kelty Hearts are promoted automatically in the midst of league reconstruction talks.

However, he believes that the club are ready to take that next step – and backed them for more title success when the Scottish football shutdown is lifted.

“I’ve never taken my eyes off East Kilbride,”he said.

“When I left the majority of the players stayed on so I was always watching them.

“The new manager [Martin Lauchlan] only added about three players and I’ve grown really close to them.

“It’s not like I left with any bad blood, we just shook hands and left. It just came to an end for both parties.

“They’ve been really, really unlucky on a couple of occasions, especially in the penalty shoot-out with Cowdenbeath.

“You look at Kelty now and they are getting a wee break, they go from winning the league to potentially getting straight into the league.

“It’s not done and dusted but there is a good chance they could get in there with Brora Rangers.

“East Kilbride are unlucky in that they had to go through the play-off and just haven’t quite made it.

“East Kilbride will get there. They are so well-organised and well-run.

“There is a brilliant facility in a town that is just waiting for it to happen.”
