The efforts of stores across the greater

East Kilbride area has not gone unnoticed in recent weeks, with many moving to thank stores for staying open and putting themselves at risk daily to do so.

Workers at stores have been praised by many and have been celebrated during the now weekly Clap for Carers movement everyThursday, which has been extended to all key workers.

Linda Fabiani was happy to share her gratitude for the sacrifices made by those in the retail sector.

The MSP told the News:“We take it for granted that we can buy food and essential supplies whenever we need them, so I am grateful for all of those, in small stores and large supermarkets who are still working during these difficult times.

“They are so important in keeping our local communities going. From home deliveries, collection services and often checking in on vulnerable customers, retail service workers have adapted their way of working during this pandemic.

“Shopkeepers and staff have stepped up during this crisis and they deserve our thanks for all they do.”

Her sentiments were echoed by her Conservative counterpart, Graham Simpson MSP, who highlighted the move to support local.

He told us:“One of the good things for me about the current period is that I have been using small local shops a lot more.

“I tend to nip out in the morning on my bike to buy a paper and a few other things, and have varied the shops I go to. The smaller stores in town and really pretty good and sell a good range of stuff.

“The queues at the main supermarkets have been off-putting at times if you only want one or two things, so that’s what’s prompted me to go elsewhere – and I think I will keep it up because we really need these businesses to keep going.

“They are doing a great job and we should be thankful for them.”
