Driver five times the speed limit in chase Maniac hit speeds of up to 90mph on wrong side of road

-

An East Kilbride man has admitted assaulting his partner and police officers.

Scott Brown, 35, was held in custody at the weekend, but was freed on bail at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.

He admitted assault aggravated by domestic abuse, threatening or abusive behaviour and two counts of police assault.

Defence agent Andy Thomson admitted his client has a“bad”record, adding:“This was pathetic, drunken behaviour.”

Brown did not appear in court for the hearing as accused persons are being kept out of the courtroom when possible during the Covid-19 crisis.

Mr Thomson said, if released, he intended to stay at the Eva Burrows First Stop Project in Cambuslang which provides emergency accommodation.

Sheriff Moira MacKenzie deferred sentence until July 6 for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging order.

Brown was released on bail.

In a separate case he pleaded not guilty to offences including dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

Trial in that case was set for October.

Pedestrians leapt to safety and motorists had to swerve to avoid crashing as a maniac driver clocked speeds of up to 90mph during a police chase.

Bryan Prow weaved in and out of traffic, drove on to the pavement and sped through a red light.

Finally he abandoned his vehicle in a car park, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard on Friday.

The high-speed pursuit began in East Kilbride and continued through Cathkin, Rutherglen, Castlemilk and Carmunnock.

Prow, 23, of Colvend Drive, Rutherglen, admitted driving dangerously and without insurance on August 24 last year.

He sped through a number of streets in East Kilbride including Dunglass Avenue, Old Coach Road, Markethill Road and West Mains Road.

The chase continued along the Cathkin bypass and Cathkin relief road in Rutherglen before Prow headed along Croftfoot Road and Carmunnock Road to Kittochside Road.

Prow drove at 70 miles an hour in an area where the speed limit is 30, pulled on to the wrong side of the road and caused other motorists to take evasive action.

Then, in an effort to give police the slip, he clocked more than 60 miles an hour in a ‘20’s Plenty’ stretch, speeding along narrow side streets between parked cars.

Police then clocked him doing 90 in an area where the speed limit is 40.

Prow weaved between traffic on the dual carriageway, causing other drivers to brake sharply, before speeding through an area that was “heavy with pedestrian traffic”.

His vehicle went through a red light and clocked 70 miles an hour on a “pavement area”, causing pedestrians to jump for their lives.

He increased speed again - to 90 miles an hour - and went through a roundabout without giving way before screeching to a halt and leaving the vehicle in a car park.

Miraculously, there were no reports of injuries during the pursuit.

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen called for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging order, and deferred sentence until July 10.

Prow was allowed to remain on bail, but was disqualified from driving with immediate effect.
