‘SNAP is so important to so many families’

-

Families who have used SNAP have told the News of their fears it will not go ahead this year.

A lifeline for so many, they are desperate for it to find a new base.

Caroline Lithgow’s son, Josh,13, is one of those who attends. She said:“Josh absolutely loves it.

“It is a vital resource as it allows a regular routine for ASN children and allows them to meet with their friends in a safe environment, as well as allowing parents respite and being able to carry on working throughout the summer.

“Josh has been attending the hub for the last nine weeks as both myself and my husband are key workers. I have learned SLC will not be providing hub facilities for ASN children through the summer and now with the possibility of no SNAP it’d be near impossible for myself to carry on with my work.

“With all our children’s regular club/activities no longer running its hard enough for them to understand never mind the added pressures to parents.”

Meanwhile, Alison Gilroy, mum to eight-year-old Jacob Smith said:“SNAP are an amazing organisation that have supported us for the past few years.

“Jacob is autistic and has very complex needs, he needs one-to-one adult support when at home and when in the community.

“Accessing sessions at SNAP during the summer is a lifeline for us and other families with children who have additional support needs.

“SNAP always have fun activities lined up for the children, supported by trained caring staff which helps to keep our kids in the school routine, while offering a short break for parents and siblings.”
