Erskine set for further Kilby talks

- PAUL THOMSON

East Kilbride boss Stevie Aitken has revealed he will continue talks with Chris Erskine next week over a possible move to K-Park.

The News revealed online last week that the former Livingston striker had held initial discussions with Aitken and was seriously considering a shock move to the Lowland League.

Aitken said: “I had a good chat with Chris and we spoke about the club going forward and what we are trying to achieve.

“We will follow that up in the next week or so.”

Chris Erskine has revealed he is open to a shock move to East Kilbride.

The midfielder was playing in the Scottish Premiership with Livingston last season, but he is prepared to drop down to the Lowland League – Scotland’s fifth tier – after holding initial talks with Kilby gaffer Stevie Aitken.

Erskine, who has also played for Dundee United and Partick Thistle, is excited at the prospect of being able to help his hometown team earn promotion to the SPFL.

Talk of a move comes after the News revealed the club were also hoping to get ex-Rangers and Dumbarton midfielder Kyle Hutton on board.

Erskine said:“I thought it was a good appointment when East Kilbride got Stevie Aitken and Ian Durrant in.

“They are obviously looking to do something and I’ve heard rumours about other players they are looking at as well, so they want to make a push to get up to the SPFL.

“I’ve always been keeping my eye on what they are doing, living here anyway.

“I’ve already spoken to the manager and listened to what he had to say, so it’s a case of waiting to see what happens. I’m open to going part-time now and East Kilbride were one of the first teams to contact me.

“They wanted to see if I would be interested and I’m waiting to find out if it will go any further.

“We don’t know what is happening with football because of the pandemic and I’m obviously hopeful I might get offers from higher up as well.

“But I definitely wouldn’t rule out a move to EK.”

Kilby boss Stevie Aitken has revealed talks will continue with the player next week. He said:“I had a good chat with Chris and we spoke about the club going forward and what we are trying to achieve.

“That’s what we are trying to do, get players in, let them know about our ambitions and have a good chat with them. Then hopefully we follow that up with potential contract offers.

“We’ve not sat down and spoke figures with Chris yet, it was about seeing if he would be interested.

“He can see what is happening here, he’s an East Kilbride lad and I’m sure Chris Erskine would like to be part of an EK team that could get into League Two.

“So we will follow that up in the next week or so.”
