Kingsgate gets positive review
A summary of findings into Kingsgate Care Home is also included in the report to the Scottish Parliament.
The facility, which caters for 61 residents, was inspected on June 1 and inspectors were joined by Healthcare Improvement Scotland and an infection control nurse from NHS Lanarkshire.
Worryingly, it was found the home was in need of “deep cleaning”despite care homes being among those hit hardest in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The report states:“The home had in place policies and procedures for infection prevention and control.
“The home had adequate supplies of PPE, but we identified a requirement to improve stations for putting on and taking off PPE.
“We identified the need for deep cleaning and for the home to maintain domestic cover to ensure this was carried out.”
However, the report added:“We observed good care and good support for eating and drinking.
“People were also engaged in meaningful activities and had access to outside space.
“Staffing levels were good although we asked that breaks for staff were better organised.”
A spokeswoman for Larchwood Care Limited, who run Kingsgate, said:“We note the many positive comments in the report and acknowledgement that staff have received additional COVID-19, hygiene and PPE training which is adhered to.
“Deep cleans are carried out following our own internal procedures and official guidance. Care Inspectorate feedback is always welcome and we take its recommendations seriously.”
