Redundancyfears forEKtravelagents

-

The future of jobs at Barrhead Travel in East Kilbride are under threat after the firm this week revealed it was being forced to make redundancies.

One of the country’s largest travel agencies, the company said the move came following “a drop in customer confidence” due to travel restrictions.

The firm, which has a store at Kingsway, said it also blamed

quarantine uncertainty and the fact it must pay some costs of the furlough system.

In 2018, Barrhead Travel Group was bought over by the Travel Leaders Group, one of North America’s largest travel companies.

It currently runs 76 outlets across Scotland. The firm has not said how many jobs will go but at least one branch in central Glasgow, will close.
