Residents of a new housing estate in East Kilbride were calling on the Scottish Secretary of State, Mr George Younger, to say ‘No’to a proposal for a pub virtually on their doorsteps.

And Mossneuk Residents Associatio­n wrote to Mr Younger urging him to hold a Public Inquiry into the matter.

The residents said they weren’t against the pub in principle but rather the proposed site within the Gardenhall Estate and surrounded by houses.

The FDF/FPF Danish Boys’and Girls’ Brigade Marching Band arrived in East Kilbride as part of a three-day visit to the town in their Scottish tour.

The band, which had been recently formed, consisted 29 musicians picked from 10 Danish towns and their ages ranged from 13 to 22.
