Wet weather didn’t deter a healthy contingent of EK SNP activists and supporters from joining thousand who gathered on Edinburgh’s Calton Hill.

The protest against the closure of Ravenscraig and the dumping of nuclear waste in Scotland by Nirex, included a 24 hour fast and night vigil outside the Scottish Office.

Urgent repairs were to be carried out on a gap in a wall which Calderwood residents feared posed a serious risk to children.

They claimed a young child could have fallen through the gap and have been seriously injured and they had been complaining to Strathclyde Regional Council for four years.
