Wet weather didn’t deter a healthy contingent of EK SNP activists and supporters from joining thousand who gathered on Edinburgh’s Calton Hill.

The protest against the closure of Ravenscrai­g and the dumping of nuclear waste in Scotland by Nirex, included a 24 hour fast and night vigil outside the Scottish Office.

Urgent repairs were to be carried out on a gap in a wall which Calderwood residents feared posed a serious risk to children.

They claimed a young child could have fallen through the gap and have been seriously injured and they had been complainin­g to Strathclyd­e Regional Council for four years.

Prince Charles recorded a special message for Radio Hairmyres .
