Dynamo coach given top gong

Strathaven Dynamo coaching stalwart Willie Cooper has been given a prestigiou­s award in recognitio­n of his volunteeri­ng efforts in South Lanarkshir­e schools.

Willie scooped the School and Community Volunteer of the Year gong at the South Lanarkshir­e Active Schools Volunteer Awards for his efforts in football coaching,

Retired train driver Willie puts in a lot of time, effort and dedication into coaching in primary and secondary schools, and does this over and above his role as head coach and committee member at Strathaven Dynamo youth football club.

A spokespers­on for South Lanarkshir­e Active Schools said:“The Active Schools team recognise your efforts Willie and want to say a huge thank you to you.”

Frank McGraw, chair of Strathaven Dynamo AFC, said:“I am not surprised that William has won this award as he has become a vital part of the volunteer coaching service that takes sports into schools in South Lanarkshir­e.

“It is a labour of love for Willie as he really enjoys coaching young people and helping them to improve their health and wellbeing through sport.

“He is a tremendous ambassador for Strathaven Dynamo AFC and we are delighted and proud that he has been recognised in this way from an external body.

“Well done Willie you deserve it!”
