K-Park boss targets three more to complete his ‘dream team’

-

East Kilbride boss Stevie Aitken is targeting another three new signings to complete his dream team for next season’s Lowland League.

Kilby took their summer captures to nine this week with the arrivals of ex-Rangers midfielder Kyle Hutton and goalkeeper Conor Brenan, both from Aitken’s former club Dumbarton.

But he isn’t stopping there ahead of their league campaign, expected to kick-off in October.

It was put to him that he seems to be building a dream team at K-Park and Aitken said:“We are hoping that is going to be the case.

“Until we actually start playing, time will tell. My job is to put a team together that is going to challenge for the league.

“The players we are bringing in are coming from good levels and have good experience, so that is going to give us the best chance to do that.

”It’s an exciting time for East Kilbride and for where we want to go.

“We’re looking for another three I think. “Whether it’s this week or next week, I think we should get them in. If I can get another three in that will give us 12 new players and, including the seven that’s already there, that will give us a right good start.”

Partick Thistle legend Kris Doolan – who played with recent Kilby signings Chris Erskine and Paul Paton at Firhill – is among the club’s target.

Aitken has admitted he has held initial discussions with the striker, but he revealed a deal is still some way off with other interested parties chasing the 33-year-old’s signature.

“Kris Doolan is a quality striker,”he said. “He’s played at the top level and scored a lot of goals, and I’m trying to bring quality players to the club.

“If we can get him to the club, we would do it.

“But I know he’s had conversations with other clubs and other agents. There’s a lot of teams in for him, as you would expect.

“We are not close to a deal or anything like that yet, but I have had a conversation with Kris.

“It was a good conversation and it was good to catch up with him. He is the kind of player we want to try and bring here.”
