Thistle bring Creer back to the Showpark

Goalkeeping coach Alan Creer is hoping to help East Kilbride Thistle challenge at the top of the West of Scotland Conference C.

Creer is back at the Jags for a second spell to team up with fromer Albion Rovers under-18 teammate and Showpark gaffer Iain Diack.

The club will go against some of the big-spending outfits in the new-look tier seven, including Drumchapel, as they look to fight it out for the one promotion spot and title.

He reckons that a strong recuitment drive can help his side and hopes to be working with at least three shotstoppers for the upcoming campaign.

“A long time ago I knew Diack when I was coming through at Albion Rovers when I was young,” he told the News.

“A few of the first-team boys and him recognised my name. So after talking to him I decided it was the right time to come back on board and help out if I can.

“It’s a strong league this year. “There are a good few teams who will be tough, and there are a few who have come from the amateur ranks as well.

“There will be some good competition.

“I know that Diack is looking to bring in a few goalkeepers for me to work with, and I know a few of the boys he is planning on bringing in.”

Thistle could be back playing in late September or early October, with a start date yet to be announced for the WOSL.

Creer added: “I’m hopeful that we will have a good season. The players that are here already give you confidence and I know Diack wants to add.

“We have one goalie in, and I think there are two lads who are coming in for us to have a look at.

“I’m always keen to get guys in to have a look from locals teams and for training.

“If there was even four or five goalkeepers there everyone can work hard; it’s the more the merrier for me.

“I’m delighted to be back and now as coaches we are all looking forward to getting back.”

“I know the club are really ambitious. I know Diack is as well.

“It’s going to be a tough league but you always have to at least try to strive for the top.

“You aim for the best teams in the division.”
