Positives for boss as Jags return
East Kilbride Thistle can take plenty of positives from their first game in six months, according to gaffer Iain Diack.
The Jags lost 3-0 away to Blantyre Victoria in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
But Diack was pleased with the way his side handled themselves against a side who were crowned jointChampionship title winners last season, before the new West of Scotland League was setup over the summer.
Diack said:“Blantyre are effectively two divisions above us. We were League
One last year and now they are in the top flight, so it was a very good test for us and shows us where we are and what we need to strengthen.
“We used a lot of personnel in the game, but we took lots of positives from the game.
“We competed well for periods of the match and had chances of our own, but from a fitness point of view they were probably a wee bit ahead of us.
“Other than that, we didn’t let ourselves down. It was our first game in six months, the boys are getting used to the shape we are trying to play.
”We took a lot of positives away from it and it’s just good to be back.”
John Cunningham opened the scoring for Blantyre, before Dale Jones and Sam McKenzie netted in the second half.
Thistle now hope to host EKFC’s Development squad on Friday night and plan to face Clydebank and Darvel in the coming fortnight.
Diack added:“We have games lined up but we are still awaiting confirmation they can go ahead due to current restrictions.”
