Party leader gives backing to Graham Simpson

-

Douglas Ross has given his backing to Graham Simpson who is running as the Tories’candidate in the battle to become MSP for East Kilbride.

Mr Simpson, who is currently a list MSP for Central Scotland, is hoping to replace Linda Fabiani in May’s Holyrood elections after she announced she would not be standing again.

Douglas Ross praised Mr Simpson for his campaigning on the electrification of the East Kilbride rail line and“securing assurances”over the future of jobs at Abercrombie House following the merger of the Department for International Development with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Mr Ross said:“Graham, both as a councillor and as an MSP, has shown himself to be a strong and passionate advocate for East Kilbride.

“He has lent his support to many local campaigns and challenges the current Scottish Government to invest in the area.

“I think someone with that enthusiasm standing up for East Kilbride is exactly what we need in the Scottish Parliament.

“He has been a strong member of my team and I know he has really positive plans for the next Parliament if he is fortunate enough, and I hope he is, to be re-elected.”

And speaking of the upgrade to the EK rail line, Mr Ross added:“Graham has been a very passionate and vocal voice on this to try and deliver the train services in East Kilbride that are modern and fit for purpose.

“And after so many years of campaigning it is welcome to see the upgrades finally taking place.

“The town is a really important hub for Lanarkshire, connecting the town into Glasgow and onwards.”
