Delays expected as resurfacing works at Stewartfield begin

-

Commuters using Stewartfield Way are facing more than a fortnight of delays and diversions as the council undertakes“vital”repairs.

The roadworks signify an investment of more than £400,000 and will start on March 14, lasting until March 31.

Split into two phases, work will initially see resurfacing of the road from the Morrisons roundabout to the MacIvor Crescent roundabout – that is expected to last until Saturday, March 20.

The second phase will see resurfacing of the road from the MacIvor Crescent roundabout to the Centre One Tax Centre roundabout, and is expected to last until March 31.

The council’s community and enterprise resources committee chairman, Councillor John Anderson, said: “These works are vital to improve this section of StewartfieldWay.

“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience, but would ask road users to avoid the area if possible, and if not to take notice of the diversion route.

“If the work is completed before the dates given, we will use the Variable Message Signs to let road users know.”

A clearly signposted diversion via Stewartfield Crescent, Stewartfield Road, West Mains Road, Kingsway and Stewartfield Road will be in operation throughout.

“Prominent advance warning signs”will be provided at either end of Stewartfield Way to encourage through traffic not to use Stewartfield Way at all, encouraging motorists to use the Queensway and Kingsway trunk roads.

Access will be maintained to the Morrisons supermarket at all times.

The resurfacing work is not linked to the 2022-25 City Deal project for Stewartfield Way.
