Tributes paid to EK sports club stalwart Pat
Tribute has been paid to East Kilbride Sports Club stalwart Pat Harrow, who has passed away aged85.
Sports Club chairman Gordon Caffrey says Pat, “who had oneof the most infectious laugh sin the world” will be sadly missed and will leave a massive void in the East Kilbride sporting scene.
Gordon told the News that Pat, who lived in St Leonards, threw her “heart and soul into everything” and was a “real salt of the earth type”, ina touching tribute to his long-time friend and colleague.
He said:“I’ve known Pat since Iwas five, we lived in the same street, and anything to do with sport she was involved with.
“Pat was fantastic. She was involved in the sports club, originally on the tennis side – she was a tennis player for decades and she worked on the Sports Club committee for decades.
“She really was a stalwart of theclub, fora very long time.
“Pat was a really pleasant person, she treated everyone the same and would help anyone – she would do anything she could for anyone.
“On thecommittee she did that; her work with the kids, getting them involved, was fantastic, and she was just one of those community-minded people that had time for everyone.
“Pat was verywell known in East Kilbride, everybody knew Pat.
“She had oneof the most infectious laugh sin the world– you knew when Pat wasin the room.
“She was quite the person, quite the character, and she will be missed by all who knewher.”
Gordon has also revealed that East Kilbride Sports Club will mark Pat’s passing at the club when Covid restrictions ease and it is safe to do so.
Headded: “We wouldhave been holding some form of memorial event for Pat in theclub, because of the work that she did, but circumstances mean we simply can’t dothat.
“Butthere will besome form of recognition whenwe finally get back to the sports club.”
Pat is survived by her four sons Ian, Alan, Graham and Stuart.
Her funeral was held yesterday (Tuesday) at South Lanarkshire Crematorium in line with Scottish Government Covid guidelines.
