One Gray in and one Gray out for Scotland’s Irish test

-

Jonny Gray will return to Six Nations action this week when Scotland host Ireland at Murrayfield on Sunday - but brother Richie Gray will miss out due to another concussion injury.

Richie - who had a long spell out of the squad after a head knock last year – suffered a concussion in Glasgow Warriors’recent defeat to Leinster and has not been included in Gregor Townsend’s squad to face Ireland at Murrayfield on Sunday.

Glasgow Warriors coach Danny Wilson has said with the lock recent issues with concussion, they can’t take any chances.

He said:“It is a minor head knock which he is recovering from. He is going through the process.

“The key with Richie is the history [of head injuries].

“With the history he’s got, and with missing a lot of rugby this season with concussion, we have to make sure player welfare is first and foremost and we are not putting someone with a concussion history at any sort of risk.”

Meanwhile, ex-Calderglen High School pupilJonny is set to earn his 64th cap for his country in the capital.

The Exeter Chiefs lock has been one of the standout performers for the Dark Blues so far and will be a certainty to start the clash against Ireland.

Scotland are set for their first outing since their clash with France in Paris was called off last month due to a Covid outbreak in the French camp. They sit fifth in the table after their historic opening day win against England at Twickenham was followed by defeat to Wales at Murrayfield.
