New coronaviru­s cases in

South Lanarkshir­e fell by more than 15 per cent last week

Figures published by Public Health Scotland revealed there were 117 new cases between Friday, April 16, and Thursday, April 22 – down by 16.4 per cent on the previous week.

It was the fifth week in six that new Covid-19 cases fell and numbers in the region are now at their lowest level since September 2020 after 0.36 cases were recorded for every 1,000 residents last week.

Carluke South recorded the highest number of new cases last week after nine positive tests were confirmed in the area. It also saw the highest rate of new cases last week at 2.65 per 1000 residents.

Following the spike in cases in Carluke , a mobile testing unit was deployed in the town.

Across South Lanarkshir­e, 65 of the 82 neighbourh­oods recorded fewer than three new Covid-19 cases last week – up from 62 in the previous week.

Cambuslang Central (eight) and Nerston and EK Landward area (seven) were the only other neighbourh­oods to record at least six new cases.

Bothwell North (1.29), Carluke North (1.23), Cambuslang Central (2.11) and Crossford, Braidwood and Yieldshiel­ds (1.11) were the only other neighbourh­oods to record at least 1.1 cases for every 1000 residents.
