Dunbar three points off top

-

DUNBAR United remain in the hunt for the East of Scotland Development League East Region title after defeating table-topping Whitehill Welfare on Friday evening.

The Seasiders moved to within three points of the top of the table after victory over the Midlothian side.

Goalless at the break, Dunbar broke the deadlock through Gregor Goldie.

Whitehill Welfare, who now sit second, levelled things with 16 minutes to go but Dunbar were back in front four minutes later through an Adam Collin effort.

Defeat for Whitehill Welfare allowed Penicuik Athletic to move to the top of the table, although they have played a game more than both the teams in second and third spot.

There were also wins for Preston Athletic and Haddington Athletic on Friday evening.

Oscar Fettes was the hattrick hero for the Prestonpans side, who led 3-0 away to Leith Athletic in the second half.

The hosts managed to pull one back but it was too late, with Preston sitting fifth in the table.

Meanwhile, Haddington came out on top in an entertaining contest against

Hutchison Vale.

Brodie Ritchie’s first-half strike was all that separated the two sides at the break.

Hutchison Vale were level just over 10 minutes after the restart but three home goals in 15 minutes put Haddington well on course for victory.

Riley Haston added a double, while Logan Thomas also found the net to put Haddington 4-1 in front.

A stoppage-time strike from the visitors narrowed the deficit but it was not enough.

Finally, Musselburgh Athletic’s title hopes suffered a blow as they lost 4-2 at Edinburgh South.

South were two goals up before Sam Dickson pulled one back.

The hosts would add another two goals before Dan Brown scored a consolation for the visitors.

Meanwhile, in the Scottish Lowlands Development Football League, East Kilbride proved too strong for Tranent, emerging 4-0 winners.

Tomorrow (Friday), there is an all-east Lothian clash involving Musselburgh and title-chasing Dunbar United.

Haddington are looking for another impressive result when they head to Edinburgh Community, while Preston host Tynecastle.
