Starmer vs Starmer
DEMAND FOR RESIGNATION OF LABOUR LEADER OVER ‘BIRYANIGATE’
SIR Keith Starmer has lashed out at Sir Keir Starmer and demanded his resignation as Labour leader – for drinking beer with biryani.
Starmer alleged Starmer was the first Labour leader in history to be the subject of a criminal investigation for possibly breaking Covid rules by attending a dinner for a group of 15 in the Miners' Hall in Durham on April 30, 2021.
Breaking both Covid and culinary rules, Starmer said Starmer had washed down “biryanis, bhunas, tikka masalas, rice and naan breads” – with beer.
Calling on Starmer to consider his position, Starmer said: “Come off it. He really does think that it's one rule for him and another rule for everyone else – that he can pass off criminality in his own office and ask others to follow the law?”
Accusing Starmer of “hypocrisy”, the Labour leader pointed the finger at the Labour leader: “When is he going to stop taking the British public for fools?”
He added: ‘Labour have let Britain down. An apology isn't the only thing the Labour leader should be offering today. Keir Starmer should do the decent thing and resign.”
Starmer urged Starmer to “wait for the outcome of the police investigation into Biryanigate”.
Starmer also told Starmer he had no intention of resigning. “I have already apologised. I honestly thought it was a work meeting. Even though I was chatting to Angela Rayner over dinner, I wasn't actually sure she was there.”
An angry Starmer accused Starmer of trying to “smear” him at a time when he wanted to concentrate on “real issues”.
