Dinner party and charity

DONATIONS from a resident in Pinner, north London, have been split between a food bank and a jubilee street party.

Dozens of residents gathered to mark the Queen’s Platinum jubilee in The Chase, a street in Pinner, London. They enjoyed food, drink and games, including taking part in a wheelbarrow race.

“I think that the Queen is a symbol of Britain and a symbol of how great we are,” said party organiser Kara Heward.

A long white table was set up in the street so everyone could take part, just like in many parties up and down the country.

Heward said the money for the event had been donated by a local resident, who had been paid for some filming in their house. The local then decided to put the money back into the community by splitting it between a food bank and the party.

For Heward, the jubilee celebrations also held a personal significance due to her grandmother’s experience during the war. “For me the Queen means a a lot because my grandma escaped from Germany in the war, so for her the Queen was a symbol of freedom,” she said.

Winners of the wheelbarrow race, Manan and Darshan Shah, expressed their enjoyment at the party. “It’s been proper wholesome…it’s quite remarkable how long the Queen has been going, fulfilling this duty for 70 years…it’s amazing,” said Manan.

Another attendee, Louisa Hinds, said she was delighted to be celebrating alongside her neighbours and getting together with people again following the pandemic.

“We’re such a lovely community here,” she said.

Cildren also took part in an egg and spoon race.
