Himesh Patel gets Emmy nod

STATION ELEVEN ROLE EARNS ACTOR NOMINATION IN THE LIMITED SERIES OR TV MOVIE CATEGORY

-

FORMER Eastenders actor Himesh Patel’s career in the US continues to flourish after he bagged an Emmy nomination for his lead role in the miniseries Station Eleven.

The 31-year-old will go up against fellow Brits Colin Firth and Andrew Garfield, as well as Hollywood big-hitters Oscar Isaac, Michael Keaton and Sebastian Stan in the Best Actor, in the Limited Series or TV Movie category. In Station Eleven, which is based on the 2014 book by Emily St John Mandel, Patel plays trainee paramedic Jeevan Chaudhary who is part of a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a flu pandemic. “It’s a hopeful look at what could be deemed a bleak future,” said Patel.

Filming for the show started in January 2020, just before the pandemic. “It’s surreal, looking back at those episodes now, because it’s kind of unbelievable that some of the stuff came to pass in reality,” Patel added.

British actor Nick Mohammed has been nominated for the best supporting actor in a comedy series for Ted Lasso, which scored a mammoth 20 nominations. Mohammed will once again go up against co-star Brett Goldstein, whom he lost out to in the same category last year.

Padma Laskhmi will be hoping it’s third time lucky after she was nominated in the Outstanding Host for A Reality-Competition Program for her show Top Chef. “I am over the moon for all of us at Top Chef,” Lakshmi told Daily Dish. “Receiving this many nominations means the world to us. A big thank you to the Television Academy for recognising our work. I am beyond happy today.”

In the reality show categories, there is a nomination for Tan France in the Best Host for a Reality or Competition Program for his show Queer Eye. Queer Eye follows France alongside fellow cultural experts Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, Jonathan Van Ness, and Antoni Porowski who draw on their expertise in fashion, beauty, self-care, design, and food, to help transform the lives of often hapless, stagnant men who are at a crossroads in their lives.

There were nods in the musical categories for Siddhartha Khosla and Nainita Desai. Khosla earned three nominations. Two for Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building (theme and series score) and one for the song The Forever Now in NBC’s This Is Us.

Nainita Desai, composer of 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, the Netflix documentary about Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal Purja climbing the world’s tallest mountains, received a nomination for Outstanding Music Composition For A Documentary Series Or Special (Original Dramatic Score).

“I never scored anything so epic or so inspiring visually,” she said. “That was a massive challenge, musically, trying to match the scale of the imagery.”
