NEW TRICKS
The latest designer collaborations at Heal’s feature firsts for three celebrated British designers – what better way to celebrate the new season?
Design is, by its nature, a fluid thing, led by technology as well as trends. As a champion of new products and innovations (from feather-filled mattresses and electric lighting to being the first retailer to introduce Scandinavian furniture to the UK) since it opened in 1810, London-based retailer Heal’s has always understood that. Its reputation for supporting emerging and established design talent, meanwhile, continues to this day – as showcased in its latest series of collaborations with leading British designers.
As has come to be expected from Heal’s, these are no simple ‘designed by...’ partnerships. Acclaimed furniture designer Matthew Hilton, for example, has taken his first foray into lighting design. Along with the elegant, minimalist silhouettes for which his work is known, subtle colour and LED technology make them a perfect fit for modern homes.
Also new this season is an exclusive collaboration with east London design studio Vitamin. Its mission – to create a Scandinavian-inspired collection with contemporary design and technology at an attractive price-point – is evident in pieces such as the ‘Contra’ pendant light ( below), which plays with both material and form in its contrast of metal and glass.
It’s a first, too, for 2006 Heal’s Discovers winner Russell Pinch. The latest addition to Pinch’s ‘ Wallis’ collection, launched exclusively at Heal’s last year, is his debut bed design (right). With its soft curves, crisp, stylish lines and a compact-yet-generous profile, it will likely not be his last. Discover the new SS18 collections at heals.com
