DOROTHÉE MEILICHZON
The French interior designer known for her Instagrammable style
Who is she? Industrial designer, Meilichzon fell into interiors, in her words, ‘a little by chance’, eight years ago when her friends, Romée de Goriainoff, Pierre-charles Cros and Olivier Bon, founders of The Experimental Cocktail Group, asked her to take on the design of their first bar in Paris, the Prescription Cocktail Club. The project was such a success that Meilichzon decided to set up her own studio, Chzon, later that year, concentrating on bars and hotels. What’s her style? Typical Meilichzon interiors feature a rich colour palette, plenty of pattern and elegant materials, such as marble and brass. Although she works mainly in the hospitality industry, the interior designer’s ideas can easily be applied to residential projects. ‘I try to do something opposite to minimalism, layering colour, pattern and furniture from different eras together to create a story, an atmosphere,’ she explains. Her inspiration always stems from the neighbourhood or the history of the building. What are her recent projects? Three hotels particularly stand out. Two in Meilichzon’s hometown of Paris: Hotel Panache (top right), which opened in 2016, and the Hotel Bachaumont ( below), with its Art Deco styling, as well as the Henrietta Hotel in Covent Garden ( bottom, right), the interior designer’s first project in London, which was completed this year. She says ‘The important thing is to make spaces where people can sleep like royalty, eat well and enjoy themselves.’ chzon.com
