LOOK FORWARD
to what is to come… I can give you no better advice. Certainly, as we head into the summer holidays, it’s as good a time as any to look back and take stock of the past six months and to get excited about what’s ahead. So, to that end, I give you our biannual issue dedicated to the latest and greatest things on the design horizon: the pieces, people, trends and talents set to shape and shake up the interiors world in the second half of 2018. It all kicks off with my exploration of what we here at ED Towers are calling ‘Happy Design’: a move towards bold, bright and brilliantly positive interiors. It’s a trend that is having a big impact – from luxury brands to the high street, we’re seeing its influence everywhere. A confessed lover of all things monochrome and muted, I’ve surprised myself with how easily I’ve been persuaded to embrace everything from candy colours to soft shapes. If I can be convinced, even the most ardent lover of minimalism can be tempted to dip their toes in. In the end, it’s all about stamping your personality on a space, which is surely the key to any great interior. To further convince doubters, the indomitable author, potter and designer Jonathan Adler also gives his hilarious pointers on how to achieve a ‘Happy’ home. Hopefully, it’s a decorating mood that will make you – just like me – look at where you live in a whole new light. The positivity doesn’t stop there, though. The rest of this issue is infused with the same sense of bold confidence – from the most desirable new pieces that the ELLE Decoration team discovered at April’s Milan Furniture Fair in the Edit to the latest on-trend shopping in Looks. You’ll also find a new and exciting selection of cutting-edge international homes, all ahead of the curve in terms of their use of colour, materials or the way their interiors have been curated. I hope this Trend issue provides you with some invigorating inspiration and, of course, a big dose of happiness, for the months ahead. Bring it on!
