BLOCK PARTY

-

Known for its patterned, monochrome encaustic tiles, Bert & May has had a change of heart: for its latest launches, it is embracing solid hues. A collection of eco-friendly paint – including 48 warm, naturally derived shades available in eco emulsion, limewash and eggshell – joins 31 new block-coloured tiles. ‘Navy 03’ eco emulsion paint, £65 for 2.5 litres; ‘Sea Blue’ tile, £3 each ( bertandmay.com).

THE GREAT COVER-UP

Once the preserve of bathroom and kitchen floors, vinyl has been given a contemporary makeover. Flooring specialist Tarkett has collaborated with Swedish studio Note to create the ‘iQ Surface’ collection, comprising vinyl coverings in five different colour groups that can be used to decorate everything from walls to furniture. From £40 per square metre plus fitting (tarkett.co.uk).

NEW DIMENSIONS

Havwoods’ take on the 3D-tile trend uses the material of the moment: cork. The ‘Vertical’ collection is the flooring brand’s first range designed for use on walls, and can create various visual effects depending on how you combine the three tile designs. What’s more, cork is soundproof, provides insulation and repels dust and fungus. From top: ‘Modo’, ‘Giza’ and ‘Reyes’, from £52.74 per square metre (havwoods.co.uk).

WASTE NOT WANT NOT

Spanish tile brand Huguet has joined forces with London-based architectural firm APT to produce a new kind of terrazzo using waste from the construction industry. Available in three soft shades, the material is made from building excess such as brick, metal and timber that would usually end its life in landfill. From £161.36 per square metre (huguetmallorca.com).
