INSIDER GUIDE KITCHEN DIRECTIONS
Industry experts on the trends that will define the decade
MARCELLO CUCONATO, CREATIVE
DIRECTOR, EXTREME DESIGN Individually sourced, unusual materials not commonly associated with kitchens will become more prominent. It’s the result of a shift towards greater individuality and self-expression in interior design over the past few years. We’re seeing more daring
kitchens featuring bolder hues, eclectic material palettes and strong architectural
forms (extreme-design.co.uk).
BERNARD OTULAKOWSKI, MANAGING DIRECTOR, SIEMATIC UK
Walls have come down and homes opened up, and as boundaries between
spaces blur, kitchens borrow from the design of living rooms and use the same styles, materials and ornate details. The kitchen will continue to become less
obvious with hidden appliances, foldaway units, concealed sinks and hobs and open-shelf solutions (siematic.com).
FIONA GINNETT, CREATIVE
DIRECTOR, HOLTE
There will be an increased awareness of sustainability and environmental responsibility when planning kitchen refurbishments or renovation projects. This may manifest itself in repurposing vintage pieces of furniture or choosing to replace the fronts of a perfectly serviceable but tired-looking kitchen rather than rip it out
and start again (holte.studio).
TOM HOWLEY, DESIGN DIRECTOR,
TOM HOWLEY
With designers taking ever more inspiration from nature and attempting to bring the outdoors in, kitchens are seeing a great move towards embracing natural tones and materials. Strong greens and blues are overtaking the traditional grey
kitchen, and natural wood stains are becoming more popular as an alternative
to paint altogether (tomhowley.co.uk).
