USE HAIRSPRAY TO…

Create a style with extra volume, grip and hold. Modern formulas are lighter and more airy than ever, so they’re best used for style with movement – to create curls, for example.

‘Use hairspray liberally throughout the hair, then brush thoroughly for lived-in texture and a quick way to build a base for styling. Then spray each section of the hair before heat-styling for longevity. Clip each curl in place and allow to cool before removing and breaking them up with your hands. A light mist of M odern Hairspray will give definition to each curl. Creating fine layers of lightly misted hairspray over the surface can help build shine.’

USE T EXTURE SPRAY TO…

Add a ‘cool-girl’ injection. An ultra-fine mist is best for adding dishevelment that looks like a stylish accident. Ideal for down dos or to add a little romanticism around the hairline.

‘Texture mist can be sprayed through the hair and layered for volume and texture, or directly into roots to develop height and volume. When misted through ends and mid-lengths, it enhances natural movement. For rock’n’roll hair, flip your head upside down, spray the roots and lengths, then flip your head back and spritz the crown.’

USE PRIMER TO…

Get some control. Primer is the cornerstone of the professional hair stylist, and the key to a successful up-do. It’s about grip plus volume.

‘A great product gives you body and hold. Sprayed liberally throughout, even freshly washed hair can hold any style. First, add volume by applying to the roots, which provides the perfect base for backcombing. Create textured knots by spraying the lengths before twisting the hair up and pinning it in place. Pull a few strands loose for an unfussy finish.’

USE DRY SHAMPOO TO…

Look done but not ‘done’. The best thing about dry shampoo is no longer its oil-soaking abilities: the newest wave of powder sprays are less quick-refresher, more viable styling product, designed to give oomph and grip, and a mattified texture.

‘Dry shampoo is always a staple in my kit bag – I use it as a styling product in its own right. It should be fine and silky without being too powdery. For volume and hold, spray directionally where needed, brush thoroughly and give your hair a quick blast with the cool shot of the hairdryer. For a fringe or hairline that needs refreshing, spray on to a soft boar-bristle brush and work through to remove day-old residue.’
