CHRISTINE ALLADO
THE ACTOR BRINGING HIT SHOW HAMILTON TO LONDON
Everyone from Beyoncé to Donald Trump has an opinion on Hamilton,
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Grammy, Tony and Pulitzer prize-winning musical about the founding fathers of America. ‘It’s a show that puts politics on the stage,’ explains 27-year-old Christine, who will star in the UK run. ‘In my country – the Philippines – we’re under a turbulent regime, and it’s the same in America. That’s why Hamilton is so relevant today.’ It took her six months to land the parts of Peggy Schuyler (the influential daughter of an army general) and Maria Reynolds (Alexander Hamilton’s mistress). Initially auditioning for a different character, Christine was then asked to sing a duet between Hamilton and Maria. ‘The casting director said, “When you do Maria’s character, the molecules in the room change.”’ Needless to say, she got the job. Hamilton opens at the Victoria Palace Theatre on 22 November
