OUT now / CERT u / 90 Mins directors Pierre Coffin, Kyle Balda cast Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker HAVING GIVEN UP his career of crime, gru (Carell) is now an Anti-villain League agent with his wife, Lucy (Wiig). That is, until they’re both fired for letting diamond-stealing former child star Balthazar Bratt (Parker) escape custody. But gru soon discovers he has an identical twin, Dru (also Carell), who sets about trying get him back into the family business: villainy. Of these two new characters, the ’80s-obsessed Bratt is by far the most successful. Wearing shoulder pads and packing a gun that doubles as a keytar, he’s a zany presence for the kids, but also brings a buzz of nostalgia for their parents. Messier than previous films (but far better than the lacklustre Minions), there’s still enough energy to suggest this is a moneyhoovering franchise that will run and run.
