LICENCE TO ROAM
SIX OCCASIONS MOVIE CHARACTERS COULD HAVE DONE WITH SOME EXTRA DATA
The inbetweeners 2 Location AUSTRALIA
After an eventful holiday in Byron Bay, including accidentally killing a dolphin, the four friends head to Birdsville to hook up with Jay’s love, Jane. En route, they run out of petrol in the middle of the outback and all looks grim. If they had a Go Roam plan, the gang could have used their roaming data to pull up survival apps to find tips to keep them going. Instead they drink pee and hold hands, a bit like in Toy Story 3.
victoria Location Germany
New to Berlin, having fun in a banging nightclub, Spanish girl Victoria heads out into the city at 4am. What follows is the craziest night on the town, starting with her befriending four guys and ending with her taking part in an armed robbery. Being able to pull up a simple notification app to remind her to get an early night would have been most beneficial.
Jurassic Park Location COSTA rica
Roaming data at no extra cost would have been useful to pretty much every character on the ill-fated island off the coast of Costa Rica. Alan Grant would easily find apps to help him to relate to children. Ian Malcolm could call up Wikipedia to explain Chaos Theory. And perhaps if Dennis Nedry had had a little natural history information at his fingertips the whole disaster could have been averted.
Taxi Driver Location USA
Poor Travis Bickle. He just can’t catch a break with women. He meets the angelic Betsy but his choice of film for their first date — it’s of the adult variety — instantly ends the relationship. Using Go Roam, available in 71 countries, he could use a dating app to find love pretty much anywhere. He’s even got a killer opening line: “Are you talkin’ to me?”
angels & Demons Location The VATICAN city
Even in the smallest independent states, Go Roam works its magic. This would have really helped Hush Puppies-sporting symbologist Robert Langdon in his race around the Vatican City to save the lives of four papal candidates. He could have saved himself a lot of legwork with an Ancient History app. He could also order some more stylish Italian shoes.
The lost City of Z Location Brazil
British explorer Percy Fawcett undertakes several attempts to find a lost ancient city in the Amazon, covered in gold and full of strangers — and would have been much better off with Google Maps. He might also have been able to navigate his way around the locals, or at least dazzle them with technology — with everyone (bonus!) reaping the Go Roam rewards.
