MAX JOLIN — 8 THE LADYKILLERS

What is The Ladykillers about?

A group of “musicians” rent a house and stay with a lovely old woman. And then it turns out that the so-called musicians are actually criminals. And then Mrs Wilberforce, the old lady, finds out. And in the end they all die. Except for the old lady.

Did you think it was a funny film? Well, some bits were funny. Like when all the bad guys died. And when Mrs Wilberforce, the old woman, said, “I’m shocked and appalled that you stole the money.”

Would you describe it as a comedy? It’s a bit of a dark comedy in some parts. I liked that. It’s a dark children’s film. For older children, like 12 or 11.

Did you like the gang of bad guys? I liked their leader, Marcus. He was extremely creepy and evil.

Would you be surprised if I told you he was played by Alec Guinness, the actor who played Obi-wan Kenobi in Star Wars?

Yeah, I would be. How can that creepy weirdo be Obi-wan Kenobi?!

What did you think of the old lady? She could be a bit of a pest. But until near the end, she was trying to be nice to them and didn’t realise they were bad. That made me feel sorry for her.

Was there anything you didn’t like? I didn’t approve of the name. The Ladykillers. There’s only one little bit about them trying to kill the lady!

What would you have called it? [Thinks] The Ladytrickers.
