Guardian Angel

Mike Banning is back in Angel HAS Fallen — but this time he’s on the run

-

When you absolutely, positively need to protect the President of the united states of america from danger and hordes of deadly assassins, there is only one man to whom you can turn: secret service agent extraordinaire, Mike banning (Gerard butler). accept no substitutes.

When terrorists attacked the White house in 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen, only one thing stood between them and their target, President benjamin asher (aaron eckhart): Mike banning. When terrorists (a different set, mainly because banning killed the first lot) took down most of the world’s leaders in 2016’s sequel, London Has Fallen, once again only one thing stood between them and President asher: Mike banning.

but in Angel Has Fallen, the third part of the banning trilogy, the tables have turned. once again, there is an assassination attempt on the President — Morgan Freeman’s allan trumbull, taking over the reins from asher. once again, it is unsuccessful — but this time, banning — codenamed angel — is accused of being the mastermind behind this fiendish plot, and taken into custody. Which makes a lot of sense — if you’re an international terrorist with designs on killing the us President, you’d want to engineer the removal of the one man guaranteed to foil your fiendish schemes.

Desperate to clear his name, banning escapes and becomes a man on the run, racing against time to prove his innocence, protect his family, and foil another attempt on the President’s life by those infernal international terrorists.

In a relatively short space of time, the … Has Fallen series has become one of the most reliable franchises in hollywood. you want glorious overthe-top action? It’s got action in spades. and guns. and bullets. and knives. and massive explosions. you want ridiculous dialogue, dripping in machismo? It’s got that too. and you want an action hero for the ages? It’s got that in banning, the gruff, no-nonsense, loyal one-man army that has rapidly become Gerard butler’s signature

role. The modern heir to John Mcclane, he’s the guy you want on your side if you’re in a pinch. The guy you want when there are 50 gun-toting thugs outside the room. The guy you want when there’s a President in danger.

This time, though, it will be fascinating to see how Banning reacts to becoming the world’s most wanted man, as he tries to outsmart his own agency, the FBI, and those pesky terrorists. It won’t be easy, but always bet on Banning.

Directed by former stuntman Ric Roman Waugh, Angel Has Fallen stars Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Danny Huston, Piper Perabo, Lance Reddick and, as Banning’s estranged father, Nick Nolte. It promises to be an explosive conclusion to the trilogy.
