The f ive fates of Spider-man

Following a suspenseful push and pull between studios, one of our finest young webslingers could be swinging any which way in his near future

BACK TO THE SPIDERVERSE

A sequel to the Oscar-winning animation was in the works. The beauty of the Spiderverse is that, by definition, there are infinite possibilities. The witty post-credit sting with Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’hara, aka Spider-man 2099, suggests one character who could join Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales next time. But is it wrong to hope that he goes tripping through dimensions, and especially the cartoon world of Peter Porker’s Spider-ham?

After all, Cassandra Webb is not your average superhero: an elderly, blind precognitive on a web-like life support system. It’s a step forward for differently abled representation, and a heroine like none we’ve seen before. Let’s hear it for super-oaps.

ANOTHER MARVEL CROSSOVER

Part of the renewed Marvel/sony pact involves one more event film with Spider-man in the main MCU. The wording suggests an Avengers-style crossover event. Could there be a Young Avengers team coming? Will he reteam with Falcon and the Winter Soldier? Could there be a huge mutant threat, as the X-men join the MCU? Or even something bigger still — something Galactus-sized, even...
