FIRST CONTACT THE FORCE AWAKENS

Fresh from murdering his dad in cold blood (note: decidedly unheroic), Kylo Ren chases after Rey on Starkiller Base. But he doesn’t account for our hero’s burgeoning Force powers — Luke’s lightsaber flies into her hand, which she slashes across Ren’s face. Ouch.

FORCETIME THE LAST JEDI

Pre-zoom, Rey and Ren (now facially scarred) are all about long-distance calls. Though Rey’s on Ahch-to and Ren’s with the First Order, the two keep metaphysically meeting for emotionally charged Force-chats of increasing vulnerability, peaking in a tantalising touching of fingers — until Uncle Luke barges in. Buzzkill.

BEST OF FRENEMIES THE LAST JEDI

Bond established, our would-be heroes are finally united. Or not. Ren double-crosses Rey, bringing her to Snoke — who he promptly bumps off, the duo teaming up to fight off Snoke’s guards, lightsabers swinging in unison. All seems well, until Ren confirms he’s now Supreme Leader — and wants Rey to join the dark side. Yikes.

FIGHT TO THE DEATH (STAR) THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

Rey, now aware she’s Emperor Palpatine’s granddaughter, battles Kylo Ren on the wreckage of the Death Star II. Resisting her dark side heritage — and aided by Leia — she strikes Ren a killing blow, before Force-healing him, facial-scar included, and giving one last plea for Ben Solo to return. A hero is (re)born.

SHOUT-OUT TO MY EXEGOL THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

Rey faces down the resurrected Palpatine on Exegol — but she’s not alone. Ben Solo dashes into the fray with a new lease of life and some of his dad’s nonchalant swagger. Together they finish off the Emperor for good, Rey dying for her trouble, and Ben saving her life by sacrificing the remainder of his. Call it ‘Ben Solo’s Noble End’.
