THE LONG RIDERS (1980) The Quaids play Stetson-sportin’ wrong’uns Clell and Ed Miller. Their shared screentime takes a blow early on, when Ed (Dennis) shoots a bystander mid-heist, and Clell (Randy) tells him, “You may be family... but I ain’t sidin’ with you.” Cue tense Christmasses at the Miller house.

HARLEM NIGHTS (1989) Quick (Eddie Murphy) runs wild through ’30s New York, boozing, philandering and shooting his acquaintances’ toes off. Older brother Charlie plays his henchman — always on hand to seal foes inside an airless bank vault. What else are big bros for?

SEAN AND CHRIS PENN

AT CLOSE RANGE (1986) The Penn boys play the dodgy progeny of Christopher Walken’s backwater thief, Brad Whitewood. He pushes tough parenting to its limits when he, erm, shoots his son Tommy (Chris) in the face, forcing loyal brother Brad Jr (Sean) to seek an Oedipal revenge.

ACTION-PACKEDNESS: 6/10 BROTHERLY LOVE: 9/10

SHAWN AND MARLON WAYANS

WHITE CHICKS (2004) Taking up the comedic crossdressing baton from Nuns On The Run, the Wayans play Fbiagent siblings who impersonate Caucasian heiresses for reasons best described as “tenuous”. Razzie-nominated brotherly hi-jinx ensues.

ACTION-PACKEDNESS: 3/10 BROTHERLY LOVE: 7/10

EMILIO ESTEVEZ AND CHARLIE SHEEN

YOUNG GUNS (1988) They don’t play actual brothers here, but the Sheen lads still squabble like siblings throughout this ’80s Western. Shit gets real when Dick Brewer (Charlie) calls Billy The Kid (Emilio) a “little rodent” at gunpoint. Poor fraternal form all round.

UNTITLED LIAM & CHRIS HEMSWORTH PROJECT (TBC) Details on the forthcoming double-hemsworth actioner are scant. Whatever it is, let’s hope they’ve also found a role for oldest brother Luke, or the next Hemsworth family Zoom will be mighty awkward.
