REMEMBERING TREVOR GREEN
Empire Editor-in-chief Terri White pays tribute to the MD of Entertainment Film Distributors
HE WAS, QUITE simply, a giant of the British film industry. And while Trevor Green, who died on 30 April, was a very private man, he was one with huge presence; an unmistakable force among independent film distributors. Trevor was best-known for two things: his deep passion and immeasurable knowledge — famously being hands-on in all aspects of his business. That business was Entertainment Film Distributors (EFD), which he coran with brother Nigel. The company was founded in 1978 with their late father and they enjoyed their first success in 1985 with Teen Wolf.
Their most recent was Ari Aster’s Midsommar in 2019. They oversaw many iconic films in the intervening years, including the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Brokeback Mountain, The Hateful Eight, and The Departed.
Says Paul Keenan, Bauer Media’s President of Audio: “Trevor’s contribution to the lives of film fans in the UK should never be forgotten. His passion for the craft of film and the makers and producers he invested his life in made the cinema such an interesting place to be. We shall greatly miss his sharp mind, generous spirit, vast knowledge and the independent thinking he brought to the screen.” Trevor was also a man who loved to give back. He was a trustee of The Film and TV Charity and Chief Barker of children’s charity Variety. But anyone who knew Trevor would say that he was ultimately a family man — he leaves a wife and three children. They’re in the thoughts of everyone at Empire. We’ll remember the movies, but most of all, we’ll remember the man.
